EMALIN WEERASINGHE SCHOLARSHIP

Ananda Weerasinghe from Auckland, New Zealand has sponsored Ten (10) students of Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya in their ICT studies by undertaking to cover the monthly payment of these students for a one year period and hopes to continue this assistance under the Scholarship named after his mother. Ananda is the older brother of Dharmasiri Weerasinghe from United Kingdom who has been a long standing supporter of Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya ICT Project by donating a laser colour printer to us. He came to our help in paying the electricity bills when we were served with our first Red Notice.

EMALIN WEERASINGHE, their mother was a school teacher who served for more than 40 years in the Gampaha District in Sri Lanka. She was well known in the rural areas she served as a teacher with endless devotion to the children she taught. Ananda and Dharmasiri remember the free classes she conducted every year at their home to prepare students for the Government Fifth Standard Scholarship examination. Listening to what she taught the children in the verandah while playing in the yard were the first lessons that Ananda and Dharmasiri learnt that made them brilliant students later in their lives. This scholarship is established as a small gesture to commemorate a courageous and compassionate mother and a devoted teacher to thousands of children who benefited from her teaching.

We will have a function in the near future to present the scholarships and wish to thank Ananda and Dharmasiri Weerasinghe for their valuable support.
